Global Day of Prayer
The unity growing within the body of Christ was very evident in the Global Day of Prayer Celebration at Harvest Church in Temple Sunday afternoon, June 12th. At least 15 different churches from across the area were represented among the 145 in attendance, an increase from last year's gathering. Prayers were offered in five different languages. Prayer went up in Chinese, Sinhalese (one of the principle languages of Sri Lanka), Spanish, Hebrew, and, of course, English. Three churches provided praise music. One group sang in Spanish and from another group dancers twirled before the Lord and brought the presence of the Holy Spirit into the gathering. It was a glorious time of fellowship and prayer. May the fire of the Holy Spirit continue to burn in all our hearts! The event closed with Harvest Church Pastor Tom Zintgraff praying a blessing over the gathering.

Over 300 Central Texas believers joined together at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5th at the Bell County Expo Center to pray for this great country of ours and join in the
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER 2011 IN CENTRAL TEXAS!
The 60th Annual National Day of Prayer took place Thursday, May 5, 2011. Millions united in prayer at thousands of events from coast to coast. The theme, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”, was based on the verse from Psalm 91:2 which states: “I will say to the Lord, my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.” Below are a few scenes from the event at the Expo Center in Belton.
Mrs. Joni Eareckson Tada, nationally known author and advocate for people with disabilities, joined Mrs. Shirley Dobson to lead the nation in prayer as the 2011 Honorary Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force.

For the past seven years the Central Texas Christian Community has joined together to pray for our nation during this nationwide event. On May 5 at 7 pm the Eighth Annual event, a concert of prayer, was held in the Expo Assembly Hall at 7 pm. Music and prayers for the church, government, military, families, business, education, and the media were woven together.
There was no admission fee.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year governors of states plus several U.S. territories issue proclamations asking citizens to set aside the first Thursday in May as a Day of Prayer.
LAST YEAR'S NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER CELEBRATION---
Central Texas celebrated the 59th Annual National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 6, 2010. Hundreds of central Texans joined together in prayer in dozens of venues across our area. The theme for this year was “Prayer for Such a Time as This” and is based on the verse from Nahum 1:7 which states: “The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.”
Our Central Texas area was saturated with prayer all day Thursday and culminated in the Regional Event
Thursday evening at the Expo Center. A number of the many prayer locations are listed at the bottom of this article.
The Regional Prayer Event featured a dramatically different and effective format, called a Concert Of Prayer. The event was a great culmination to a powerful day of prayer for our cities, State, and nation. Instead of a program of choirs and speakers, every attendee was offered an opportunity to pray in small groups arranged throughout the Expo Center Assembly Hall. Seating was arranged in 50 small circles of 10 chairs with each
circle identified with a sign for one of the 50 United States. Participants were invited to join the state circle of their choice and to offer special prayers for the government and people of that state.
Over 350 prayer participants attended and joined in prayer as selected topics were introduced. Seven topics were introduced and participants took about 5 minutes to pray for each topic. A musical interlude provided an easy transition between topics and allowed for a comfortable transition.
Event organizers said feedback was uniformly positive and the participants were blessed by the new format. All felt the strength of our prayers in a very meaningful and powerful way.
Additional Central Texas National Day Of Prayer Events were held at many area locations including:
First Baptist Church, Salado, Body of Christ Outreach Center for the Pacific Islanders, Killeen, First Church of the Nazarene, Killeen, First United Methodist Church, Killeen, Hillside Ministries, Killeen, Metroplex Hospital, Killeen, Pershing Park Baptist Church, Killeen, Praise and Deliverance House of Prayer, Killeen, True Deliverance Ministries, Killeen, Copperas Cove City Hall, Fort Hood Comanche Chapel, Killeen City Hall, Temple Municipal Building, and St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church, Harker Heights.
